Designing Scalable Data Models for Apache Cassandra

Apache Cassandra is a popular distributed database management system that is capable of storing petabyte-scale datasets, serving millions of concurrent transactions per second, and supporting high availability needs of modern cloud applications. One of the biggest challenges for successfully adopting Apache Cassandra is data modeling that has significant differences from traditional data modeling approaches. In this talk, we review the Cassandra data model and query language, explain main data modeling principles, and present the Cassandra data modeling methodology. Based on a selected use case, we demonstrate key data modeling techniques for designing effective and scalable conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
